Finaled in “The Sandy”

Great news!! My novel (first 20 pages plus synopsis) finaled in the mainstream category of “The Sandy,” a literary contest. I got the highest score in my category. It’s kind of a big deal — finals are judged by an editor at Random House — and I’m really excited about it.

Winners for this contest are announced in June. I’m also entered in two categories (mainstream and screenplay) in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association’s literary contest. I’ll find out at the end of May whether I finaled in that one. Winners of that one will be announced at their conference in late July.

Finally, I’m entering the Faulkner-Wisdom creative writing competition (novel-in-progress category) later this month. I don’t think I’ll find out about finaling in that one until September. It’s the biggest and most prestigious of the three, and I don’t expect to final. It’s open to novels in all categories, but past winners have shown a distinct bias towards literary novels.
